PORTLAND, Ore. — Sgt. Long N. Nguyen, an Oregon National Guard soldier from Portland serving in Afghanistan, has died from a non-combat gunshot wound, the National Guard said Monday.

It said Nguyen, 27, died Feb. 10 in Mazar-e Sharif. He was assigned to the Tigard-based 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

The incident is under investigation. No further details were immediately available.

The unit arrived there last summer on a yearlong mission to help train Afghanistan’s army.
