Marine’s funeral to be held at his high school

HENLEY, Mo. — The funeral of a Marine killed in Iraq last week will be at noon Saturday in Eugene, at the Cole County high school from which he graduated in 2001.

Lance Cpl. Darin T. Settle, 23, of Henley, was killed last Friday in a traffic accident in western Iraq’s Anbar Province. The Defense Department said he was a machine gunner on a truck that overturned after being hit from behind by a civilian truck traveling in the same convoy.

Settle was with a combat logistics unit from the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

A public visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Spring Valley Baptist Church in Henley.

Settle’s survivors include his parents, James and Ruby Settle; a sister, Gwendolyn; his fiance, Angela Moad; and their 6-week-old son, Wesley.
